HISTORY

Tarmac Buxton Lime has been at the forefront of lime and limestone production for over 100 years, pioneering innovative solutions for specialist applications and consistently setting the standard for quality and purity.

  • 1891

Buxton Lime Firms (BLF) was formed in 1891, following the amalgamation of 14 lime and limestone companies operating in the Buxton area.

  • 1895 - 1915

Between 1895 and 1915 a further nine quarries were started or bought, cementing the company’s dominant position in the UK market.

  • 1926 - 1929

BLF became part of Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in 1926, and the development of Tunstead, the largest limestone quarry in the UK, began in 1929.

  • 2015

In 2015 the business was acquired by CRH Plc. With operations in Germany, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Poland and Russia, we are now the second largest producer in Europe.
